World War One Centenary Talk - Royal Albert Hall Memories

Join the Royal Albert Hall's archivists, Liz Harper and Suzanne Keyte, for an inspiring talk about the Hall's important role in the First World War and the impact it had on the Grade I listed building and its people.

From recruitment rallies to the 'Victory Ball – a Procession of Peace' in 1918, the Hall hosted many fundraising and morale-boosting events throughout the war, raising considerable funds for charities involved with the war effort.

Find out more about Albert Rumbelow, the Hall's cleaner, who received the Distinguished Conduct Medal for conspicuous gallantry; the damage that occurred to this iconic building; the post-war celebration of women's franchise with the suffragettes and why the music of living German composers was banned.
