Site Accessibility

Improving accessibility

The Royal Albert Hall is committed to improving the level of accessibility within our website.   This new design has been developed in line with the priority levels in the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines, part of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

This section outlines some of the accessibility features that are provided for users and guidance on how to use them. Your web browser and operating system 'Help' should also have information on additional accessibility features.

For general information about access requirements, please visit our accessibility pages.

Design

The site has been optimised to be viewed at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 and work with the following browsers:
Internet Explorer 6.0, 7.0 & 8.0
Firefox 2.x +
Safari 2.04 & 1.3.2
If you are using an AOL web browser, you may encounter difficulties with online booking. We recommend downloading another web browser.

Colour and Fonts

The colour combinations have been checked to ensure the appropriate contrast and difference are present.  In nearly all cases the text within the content pages has been set to relative sizes, which can be increased or decreased for more comfortable screen reading.

Navigation

HTML heading tags are used to convey document structure. H1 tags are used for main titles, H2 tags for subtitles, etc.

Text equivalents have been provided for every non-text element with ALT tags provided for all images and multi-media elements.

All forms fields follow a logical tab sequence to ensure easy navigation.

JavaScript

The use of JavaScript has been kept to an absolute minimum.  Where it is used, all pages and processes are still accessible should JavaScript be turned off.

Links

All links have been written to make sense when taken out of context. Where appropriate, we have also added link title attributes to describe the link in greater detail.

Copy

Abbreviation and acronym tags have been used where appropriate to ensure abbreviations and acronyms are given a full textual explanation.

We have also ensured that blockquotes are only ever used for identifying quotations. They are not used for formatting purposes.

Alternative formats

The website does include a number of PDF files, which we are unable to re-produce in alternative formats. We recommend that users download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat to view Adobe PDF files at: www.adobe.com Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and 6.0 software provides a number of capabilities that improve access for users.
